New Plymouth Stroke Support Trust (Non affiliated)
Stroke Foundation (New Plymouth) Branch has been set up as a Trust. Our new name now is
NEW PLYMOUTH STROKE SUPPORT TRUST
Our club meets on the third Friday of each month from 10.15 a m to 1 pm at the Beach Street Hall in Fitzroy, New Plymouth. We start each year in February for every month through to December.
Stroke people who join the club and wish to come to club days and outings get a phone call by a committee member before each meeting to see if they would like to attend. Transport to Beach St Hall and home again is provided free of charge by our local Ironside Group having vans which can accommodate wheelchairs and walkers. This service is co-ordinated through Jean Hastie and is very much appreciated by our members.
Meetings begin with morning tea followed by entertainment from local identities consisting of speakers, acts, singers, musicians or discussion groups. This is followed by a sandwich lunch, tea and coffee. Our A G M is held in July lunch is different varities of soups and lovely buns. We also have two bus trips each year in a lovely 50 seater bus and provide a ramp for easy access on and off the bus, visiting places like the Mountain House, Tawhiti Musuem, Round the Mountain, Whangamomona, to name a few.
In December we meet on the 2nd Friday of the month for a special morning tea and entertainment followed by a lovely Xmas luncheon.
Carers morning tea are held 1st Monday in the month from February to December, all carers are welcome. Come and enjoy a cuppa and chat with other carers. These mornings are most helpful if you are a new carer.
We have a monthly newsletter and members are advised through this what is happening each month. Our annual subscriptions are $15 single or $25 double.
